This sucks

i'm going to need a vacation to recover from my vacation.

car is still broken. the sensor broke off on its way out so now it's going to take more work to get the remains out and the new one in. we get to hang out in the hotel lobby til they're done. hopefully soon. hopefully, we still get to make it out to see the FlightTests, because we need to leave tomorrow to get back home in time for me to work. worst case, i guess i fly home and Nick takes more time off work to get the car home...but i don't want that to happen. Too bad the FT's plane isn't really flyable right now, or we could get picked up for the visit. i'm seriously disliking the desert right now.

up til this it's been pretty relaxing. we've seen a lot of really cool stuff, and had we gotten there last night we'd have had all day to just hang out and wander around. it's hard to relax right now though. we know that this will most likely fix it, but i have a scary little thought in the back of my mind that says "what if it doesn't fix it? It's really far til the next city in any direction" i know i should stop worrying, because we'll have water and shelter and won't DIE and it's only money (to get a tow that far out) but it's still a scary thought. i really wish i was one of those people who carried sedatives around with me...

If it gets much later, since you have to leave tomorrow anyways, maybe you should just think about taking 95 up to Vegas and skipping us. That way at least you're 4 hours closer to home and can sleep in a little later tomorrow.

If you don't get out of there until 6, it'd be at least 10 by the time you got here. As it is, it'll be 6 or 7 by the time you get here if you could leave now. :(

We'd love to see you, but there's no point in killing yourself to get here to visit for 10 minutes.

our desert adventure. i will feel a lot better after we get to LA...if we make it that far. i would be really upset to get this far and not be able to see the people we came out to see.

When Welsh Girl and I went to Marfa TX on our honeymoon, we planned on being there for a week. We ended up leaving a couple of days early because, as much as we like to visit, there's NUTHIN in the desert. Even despite the <REDACTED>, we were bored out of our gourds.

The desert: great place to visit, wouldn't want to visit for more than 3 days.

wasn't in the desert, but in the canyons between the rolling prairie and the high plains. clock's foot was hurting him, so he didn't want to hike any more. it was hot. we hadn't showered in 7 days, so [redacting] was out (in fact, we had to drive home with the car windows open because the stank was so bad). we were just sitting in the sun waiting for things to cool off when we realized we could just go home early. so we did.

The campsite was at 10,000' (that's 238 kilograms for you foreigners), and I had altitude sickness (headache, no appetite, lethargy) the whole time. $380 airfare, 14 hours of driving, and 5 days of PTO down the toilet.

I'm consoling myself by buying a bunch of kick-ass computer gear.

Maybe that's it: only people with horrible lives go camping. Doing something fun would send their system's into shock, so they ease themselves into fun through the grueling and cold, boring experience of camping.

beautiful scenery, no phones or other annoying electronics, good food, no agendas....what else do you need?

in the $not_summer times, we try to at least hike every weekend (camping isn't always possible, due to family obligations and other stuff).

Mind you, I only find reading in my damp basement relaxing, but sweating and doing work I definitely find not relaxing. After my third portage trip to Algonquin Park, I was finished with camping for good.

i'd say one of the best parts of our vacation was the hike we took at Mesa Verde. it was exhausting and hot, but it was a lot of fun to be able to crawl around on the side of a cliff and see awesomeness.

It's the hiking/paddling all day and then having to put up a tent and then make food and then the sun goes down and then you can't read or do anything so you sit around and talk and then there's nothing to do so you go to sleep and do it all again the next day, but it was cold all night.

there's still a big distance between towns out here, and we're still going up and down hills, but so far the car seems to be handling it well.
